Papugai's passion for photography started even before Papugai was a company. Our founder grew up in a home where professional-level photography was the standard, even for family pictures on the wall. Ellen Lewis, Papugai's senior photographer and Mother to founder, Matt Lewis, played a more active role in Papugai's culture in the first half of our company's 19-year history. More recently, however, Ellen's role at Papugai has lessened, giving way to her life-long passion, international architecture, wildlife and human culture. In that light, Ellen has circled the globe many times in search of extraordinary images on every continent, and countless countries. In some cases, she was the first woman to set foot on certain bodies of land. In the proud and profound words of her son, Matt Lewis, "She hangs from atop thousand-foot high waterfalls and crawls through holes under the Earth with God only knows what other creatures — just to get 'that perfect shot.' I don't know how she stays alive from year to year. I certainly couldn't do even once what she does every day." A collection of Ellen's most recent and most popular works can be found proudly displayed in the hallways at Papugai. The vast majority of her work is available for sale as either framed custom prints, or electronic, high-resolution stock. While Ellen is in town, she shoots for Papugai every chance she gets. More frequently, however, you will see the magnificent works of Papugai's other photographers, who are well accomplished in their own right. Papugai's standards for photography are the highest in the industry. Our fees are quite conventional compared to most, but our results stand far above any standard we have seen.
